Javier Castaneda, owner and operator of J’s Mechanic Shop in Dallas started this family business in 2022. “I grew up around my dad and uncle always working on cars,” Javier relates. “They’d ask me to hand them a wrench or some other tool and eventually I ended up with a tool in my hand and thought I should do something with it.” Javier remembers doing a brake job or working on suspension jobs as early as 12 years old. His first job in a shop was mopping floors, because at the time, he was too young to work as a mechanic, though in his mind he thought, “maybe someday I’ll work on a car.”
By the time Javier was 15 he’d rebuilt his first engine. It was a 1988 Toyota Supra which he still owns and it has been running since the day he built it. “In the car community a Toyota Supra is a big deal,” says Javier. “This was a very motivating phase of my life – to be able to achieve a boy’s dream.” He was given a scholarship which he wanted to use only for automotive, turning his love and experience in automotive services into a career. Driven by great customer service, Javier has built a business to be proud of. A strong communicator, he is bilingual in English and Spanish. “People need to be able to communicate,” he says. He’s also a board member for Polk CDC.
