The Rotary Club of Canby and Todos Juntos of Canby/Molalla hosted a successful Early Childhood Resource Fair on Sept. 14. Horning Hall at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds & Event Center was transformed into a hub for parents of young children to interact with organization and government representatives to share information and provide resources for pre-Kindergarten children. The 14 cooperating organizations included: Head Start, The Canby Center, Discovery Toys, Canby Kiwanis Club, Bridging Cultures and many others.

About 190 children and parents were provided an age-appropriate “brainbox” filled with reading material, puzzles, eye-hand coordination activities and fun games. Everything in the “brainbox” is selected to improve readiness to read and encourage young children to “grow their brain.”

The 16 Rotary Club members and volunteers spent a rewarding evening welcoming families, serving snacks and helping with family-friendly activities. The motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self,” which means unselfish volunteer service.

Membership in the Rotary Club of Canby is an invitation to join other community members who feel a need to get involved and help others. We are an organization of local business and community leaders. We meet regularly, form friendships, and we’re able to get things done in our community and around the globe.

Each year, Rotary members invest more than 18 million volunteer hours to promote peace, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education and grow local economies. In the past year, the Rotary Club of Canby members donated more than 2,900 hours and completed 26 service projects, including Backpack Buddies (weekend food for students); Reading Rotarians and Reading Mentors (support of literacy in Canby School District), Clackamas County Youth Livestock Auction; Canby Rotary Ready (emergency supply cache and communication trailer); and the Daddy-Daughter Dance.
