Keep Clear of Fire Hydrants
Woodburn Fire District
One of the most important resources the fire district needs to fight and extinguish fires is water. In rural areas where no fire hydrants and water distribution systems exist, the fire district must rely on various above ground water supply resources or fire district “tenders” that bring in up to 3,000 gallons of water with each tender (for a house or large structure fire, multiple tenders are required to support firefighting efforts). In the incorporated areas of the fire district, there is a water distribution system with fire hydrants. Fire hydrants are vital for firefighting operations in supporting the protection and preservation of life and property (search and rescue, protecting exposures, controlling and extinguishing fire).
Oregon Fire Code and Woodburn Fire District requires unobstructed visibility and access to all fire hydrants from city streets, a minimum of 3 feet of clearance all the way around the hydrant and a height clearance of at least 6 1/2 feet (this is also a clearance requirement for other fire related components such as fire department connections (FDCs), fire valves, fire pumps, etc.). The required clearances are important in maintaining fire district capabilities and vital for the preservation of life and property in the community.
Woodburn Fire District asks property owners in the district for continued support in maintaining required clearances for fire hydrants, FDCs, or any other fire-related equipment by removing any vegetation, fencing, equipment, or other obstructions that prevent the visibility of the hydrant from the street, and the ability to work around firefighting equipment. For residential areas, if assistance is needed in maintaining the clearance and access requirements, please contact the Woodburn Fire District Fire Marshal. The Fire Marshal’s office will coordinate with residents to appropriately resolve any issues with visibility and working access to fire hydrants.

Uno de los mas importantes recursos el Departamento de Bomberos necesita para luchar y extinguir fuegos es agua. En areas rurales donde hidrantes y sistemas de distribucion de agua no existen, confiamos en una variedad de provision de agua sobre la tierra o “Tanques” del departamento de Bomberos que traen 3,000 galones de agua o mas por cada vehiculo (que para una casa o extructura bajo fuego, requiere tanques multiples para ayudar en los esfuerzos de controlar fuegos). En areas mas pobladas como ciudades, hay sistemas de distribucion de agua con Hidrantes contra fuego. Estos Hidrantes contra fuegos son vitales para la operacion de controlar fuegos y ayudar la preservacion de vida y propiedades (buscar y rescatar, proteger lo expuesto, controlar y extingir el fuego).
El codigo de fuego en Oregon y el Distrito de Bomberos de Woodburn requieren visibilidad no obstruida y acceso a todos los Hidrantes contra fuego desde las carreteras de acceso con un mini mo de 3 pies de espacio todo alrededor del Hidrante contra fuego y una area de espacio hacia arriba de por lo menos 7 pies (este tambien es un espacio requerido para otros componentes de fuego tales como conecciones del departamento de Bomberos (FDC’s), balbulas contra incendios, bomba contra incendios, etc.). Mantener el espacio es bien importante para la capacidad del departamento de Bomberos pero vital para la preservacion de vida y propiedad de la comunidad.
El Departamento de Bomberos de Woodburn sinceramente pide su ayuda continua atraves de mantener “El espacio disponible” de todos los hidrantes contra fuego, FDC’s, o cualquier otro componente relacionado con fuego atraves de remover vegetacion, cercas, material, o cualquier otra obstruccion que no permita visibilidad, acceso, o habilidad de trabajar alrededor del material relacionado con el fuego.
