A steaming bowl of ramen is the ultimate Japanese comfort food and always makes a satisfying meal. Oswego Noodle House is the newest ramen restaurant in town, family-owned and proud to serve the finest fresh ingredients, expertly prepared to transport you straight to the busy streets of Japan!
The owner, Art Chantapunnanont, gained experience working his way up in a Seattle restaurant. When he later landed a job at Tektronix, he and his wife moved to Oregon and started a cloud kitchen called Thai Dash in Southeast Portland. Ramen has always been a passion of Art’s, so when he saw an available property in Lake Oswego, he knew it was the place he would open his ramen house. Open since June 2023, Oswego Noodle House has been a welcome addition to the area. “There aren’t many options in town for ramen,” he says. “The community has responded really well; they love the food.” Art works full-time at Textronix, so apart from some bookkeeping and handyman work, his wife Kannika runs the restaurant.
Art’s talented chefs skillfully craft each dish to develop deep flavors of umami guaranteed to delight your palate. The Tonkotsu tastes just as it would in the Japanese city of Fukuoka, featuring a mouth-watering broth of slow-simmered pork, slices of deliciously tender chashu (braised pork) sitting atop springy noodles and presented with an assortment of delectable toppings. The savory Shoyu showcases the classic flavors of authentic Tokyo ramen culture. Customers love the create-your-own-ramen option, which includes a selection of broth, noodles, vegetables, meat, and a wide choice of add-ons like soft-boiled eggs, shrimp tempura, fried tofu and more! “You don’t see many places that offer something like that,” says Art. “It takes a lot of time and attention to detail, but we work hard to get it right.”
The menu also offers a tasty selection of Thai noodle dishes and rice bowls. Appetizers include deep-fried chicken wings, takoyaki, tuna corn rolls and more! Their chicken karaage is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, fried and generously coated in housemade sauce. The restaurant uses fresh and local ingredients as much as possible. A savory bowl of ramen pairs perfectly with a sweet and creamy Thai iced tea, or choose a Japanese beer on draft, a local brew or a glass of wine or local sake. For dessert, guests can choose from three delicious mochi ice cream flavors.
Oswego Noodle House is situated in a cozy neighborhood with excellent parking. The restaurant offers an open, family-friendly dining room adorned with art, orchids and bordered by a casual bartop. The solid crew is dedicated to serving the tastiest ramen in town with fast, friendly service, and they’ve been enjoying getting to know their neighbors and repeat customers. When the weather is nice, guests can enjoy their meal on the dog-friendly patio. “People walking their dogs on the path pass right by us, and they love stopping in for a beer and a bowl of ramen,” says Art, who appreciates the peaceful setting. “We’re glad to be tucked in a quiet spot; this is a family-friendly neighborhood restaurant, and we want to keep it that way.”
Since opening, the restaurant has received rave reviews and recently won Yelp’s “People Love Us On Yelp” award. They’re currently a 4.6/5 on Google with over 100 reviews, and the feedback from customers has been consistently positive. One recent review reads, “Delicious ramen at a cozy little place. We had the Miso and the spicy Tonkotsu (perfect amount of spice), and a side of gyoza. Been trying to find great ramen in the area since I moved here, and I finally found it!” Others echo those sentiments.
