For Cody Chambers, childhood was short growing up in Silverton. He was a young 16-year-old teenager when he started working as a dishwasher at a Little Caesars in Salem.

Then he got a wakeup call. “I had a child at 17,” Chambers said. “That’s what gave me the drive.”

ERIC SAWYER: SHORT PUNNY CLEVER

Adaptability. Deep faith. Positivity. Common qualities found in many uncommon heroes, quietly going about their lives. Like Eric Sawyer. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, his family moved to California when he was a baby and eventually settled in Hockinson,WA. Brought up observing a mother who gave back to others, Eric claims his Mom inspired him with her optimism and ability to positively deal with change, teaching him, “If you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you find an excuse.”

A lifetime of Service

Veteran Louis Boesel ,fought bravely during the Battle of Iwo Jima, alongside his Marine brethren who faced fierce opposition to secure the strategically important island. Now recognized as one of the bloodiest battles of the war, and the costliest in the vaunted history of the U.S. Marine Corps, the man who fought on the black sands of Iwo Jima did not initially regard it as the critical turning point it would later prove to be.

Canby High School Band Scores Big

The Canby High School band program capped an unprecedentedly successful spring campaign with some shiny new hardware this year, bringing home second place at the OSAA Band/Orchestra State Championships and placing fourth at the Oregon Music Education Association State Jazz Championships.

Cougar Choir Wins Championship

They came. They sang. They conquered. That was the story as the Canby High School concert choir claimed their first state championship with a pitch-perfect performance in the OSAA Choir State Championships at Oregon State University on May 5.
